Fleshing that out, the movie begins by quickly indicating why Freddy’s might need a new employee, and why Mike desperately needs a new job. "Five Nights at Freddy's" turns the game into a horror movie. Even so, the net result is another slice of horror that at best feels a little half-baked. “Five Nights at Freddy’s” premieres October 27 in US theaters and on Peacock.

A century ago, archaeologists excavated a 3,300-year-old Egyptian palace in Amarna, which was fleetingly the capital of Egypt during the reign of the pharaoh Akhenaten. Situated far from the crowded areas of Amarna, the North Palace offered a quiet retreat for the royal family. On the west wall of one extravagantly decorated chamber, today known as the Green Room, the excavators discovered a series of painted plaster panels showcased birds in a lush papyrus marsh. The artwork was so detailed and skillfully rendered that it was possible to pinpoint some of the bird species, including the pied kingfisher (Ceryle rudis) and the rock pigeon (Columba livia). Among the riddles they tried to solve was why two unidentified birds had triangular tail markings when no Egyptian bird known today has them.

For most of us, the word “fossil” conjures up old bones, dinosaurs and museums. Dale E. Greenwalt’s “Remnants of Ancient Life: The New Science of Old Fossils” offers a fascinating corrective. Mr. Greenwalt, a researcher at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of Natural History, is no stranger to dinosaurs and their ilk, but his focus is on prehistoric insects and the biochemistry of ancient life forms. It is the latter research—the burgeoning study of ancient biomolecules—that is the most exciting “new science” highlighted in the book’s subtitle. “Remnants of Ancient Life” is an eye-opening guide to this new world of understanding, one that encompasses chemistry along with biology.

Against a backdrop of slowing economic activity and demand, these "base effects" strongly suggest broader inflation has peaked and could fall rapidly in the coming months. CNN —Tapping into the twin markets of A) lovers of rom-coms and B) recovering English majors, “Rosaline” promotes a fleetingly mentioned “Romeo and Juliet” character front and center, then builds a very clever and breezy movie around her. The result is a welcome starring showcase for Kaitlyn Dever more likely to prosper in the hamlet of Hulu than it would have fared in the province of theaters. For those a little rusty on their Shakespeare, Romeo had actually been pining for Juliet’s cousin before they met and set in motion that whole star-crossed lovers thing. When their get-together prevents her from attending a party, the feckless Romeo falls for the visiting Juliet (Isabela Merced). “Rosaline” premieres October 14 on Hulu in the US, Star+ in Latin America and Disney+ in other territories.
